About

The IERCD nursery is located at the at the Louis Robidoux Parkland and Pecan Grove a property in Jurupa Valley that is managed in collaboration between IERCD and multiple partners. The native plant nursery is dedicated to propagating locally sourced native plants to support habitat restoration, enhancement projects, and community engagement throughout the region. 

The nurseries primarily grow native plants for IERCD's Natural Resources Team, which manages projects across a diverse range of habitats and plant communities within our district's service area. Since its establishment, the native plant nursery program has produced over 5,000 plants of more than 100 different native species to contribute to healthier ecosystems and stronger local biodiversity.

Why use locally sourced seeds? 

The IERCD is committed to using locally sourced seeds, which are carefully collected by our Natural Resources Team. Using best practices, the team ensures that seeds are gathered sustainably. They leave enough for the wild population to thrive and avoid overharvesting from any single plant.  

These locally sourced seeds are uniquely adapted to the Inland Empire’s climate, soil, and environmental conditions, resulting in plants that are more resilient to pests and diseases and better suited to support native wildlife. This approach also helps preserve genetic diversity within plant populations and promotes ecological stability and adaptability to future environmental changes.  

By growing plants from seeds collected in this thoughtful and sustainable way, our nurseries not only provide vital resources for IERCD’s restoration projects but also produce plants that thrive in the Inland Empire. Whether for habitat enhancement, community giveaways, or school programs, these plants play a critical role in creating healthier, more resilient ecosystems.
