From the Land

This project involved the construction of a Littlest Big Farm (LBF), a 10x12-foot off-grid indoor vertical farm designed to demonstrate sustainable, energy-efficient, and innovative farming practices. Funding for this project was used for essential supplies, materials, equipment, and hired contractors to build a Littlest Big Farm and demonstrate mushroom propagation. The LBF features earthen rammed-earth walls and a green roof to promote thermal insulation and sustainability.  The sub-awardee maintains a high-yield mushroom-growing operation of Lion’s Mane mushrooms.  Workshops at Goodie Farms educated participating small farmers on how to operate and benefit from a Littlest Big Farm, with a focus on increasing on-farm income and adopting climate-smart agricultural practices. This initiative is a scalable model designed to inspire adoption across the region, providing tangible benefits to the local agricultural community and fostering a network of sustainable, resilient small farms.
